Were The Separatists actually that BAD?

The other night I sat watching the 8th episode in the Netflix original series ‘Narcos’, for those who have not seen it and is interested in crime shows, you should check it out. However, at the end of the episode, DEA Agent Steve Murphy said a quote that I wholeheartedly agree with, “Good and Evil are relative concepts”. This statement couldn’t be truer and though I could add this statement to some current situations, you all came here for Star Wars, so I’m going to add the statement to a Star Wars opinion of mine.

The Separatists were not bad guys …

… Sure they had some bad people on their side, but so did the Republic, every side in a war has some good guys and some bad guys. But deep down, the Separatists went against the Republic because they sensed something was wrong and wanted to get out —  the bottom line is, they were right. Something was wrong in the Republic. Sure the Separatists leader was Dooku and many of the high ranking officials were not good guys, but the Republics leader was Palpatine and though nobody could have foretold about him being a Sith Lord, it can be assumed that he had people close to him in the Republic who knew of his plans, people like Mas Amedda. There was no good or bad guys during the Clone Wars, just two sides, with different opinions. Both had good and bad plans. And both, had good and bad members. The episode of the Clone Wars involving Padme and her Separatist friend, proved, that they were not all bad people.

The Clone Wars itself was a joke of a war anyway, an intricate ruse put in place by the Sith to ensure Galactic dominance — a trap that both members of the war fell into, laying the foundations for the Galactic Empire. Both sides had noble causes to fight for and both felt they were fighting for freedom. It never mattered who won the war because the only person who truly won was Palpatine. The only positive outcome would have been if, Anakin had stood by and let Mace Windu kill Palpatine, then maybe peace would have been restored.

The bottomline is, the Separatists were not the good guys, they did do some horrible things, but they did them because they were following the orders of evil people. The Clone Troopers also followed orders blindly, but they weren’t bad guys. As did the Republic, they too, did some bad things in the war. Including the Jedi, who at times abused their powers — example: Group Jedi Mind Trick on Cad Bane.

The Separatist were not bad guys, but they weren’t good either. In War there is no bad or good, they are just relative concepts.
