Journey To STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS
GREG RUCKA-WRITER, MARCO CHECCHETTO-ARTIST, ANDRES MOSSA-COLORS
Synopsis:
It is a period of unrest and both, the Rebel Alliance and the disbanded Imperials are eager to fight for their own cause – doing what they feel is the right thing to do.
Lieutenant Shara Bey and Sergeant Kes Dameron, are once again, deployed onto separate missions. Duty comes first and neither one is a stranger to this concept. Yet their young son, Poe, remains safely behind and Shara’s maternal instincts are kicking in at full throttle.
As Dameron accompanies General Han Solo with the Pathfinders in the ongoing battle against the Shattered Empire, Shara is now assigned to assist and escort Princess Leia Organa, in hopes of formulating an alliance with the people of Naboo.
Naboo harbors many of Palpatine’s secrets, as it was once, his home planet and the loyal remnants of his Empire remain true, ready to follow through with their master’s bidding. That said, just how far is he, the Emperor, willing to go to keep his skeletons safe from discovery …
Review:
WOW! As someone who is use to reviewing novels and I’ll just add, I’m way behind in the comic realm of Star Wars, this was a funtastic read! A real page turner and that’s not an exaggeration by any means. The artistry was amazingly ‘On Point,’ especially on certain familiar faces, for example: Princess Leia. The facial expressions were perfectly captured, as if … frozen in time. In other words, Marco Checchetto’s artwork depicted a true nostalgic from the original films and brought me back to my childhood in an instant.
The storyline was action packed with a suspenseful sensation to keep turning to the next page – I was in a race with myself to finish each vibrantly illustrated and intensely entertaining excerpt. Greg Rucka blew me away in his ability to capture the characters mannerisms that I could instantly hear their voices in my head as I read each panel.
The content itself, for me, was a true joy – as someone who really enjoys connecting the parsecs of the saga and analyzing the ambiguity of the whole picture, this issue, of Shattered Empire truly feeds that fever for said continuity. For me, the highlight of this entire issue was when Leia had her moment.
“ … I feel … cold.”
A true joining in the force! To come to a complete standstill, a physical pause, a state of immobility all due to a feeling was … epic. As if frozen in time, she stands alone, in the same foyer of the same hangar, where her father and mother fought their first fight together, against the Trade Federation, in the blockade of Naboo. In these scenes of Leia, as you look upon her face, you can hear the whispered voices of the past.
“Stay in the cockpit!”– Qui-Gon Jinn
… The young Queen Amidala, storms her palace with her royal guard following closely behind as the valiant Jedi Master and his eager apprentice stay behind, to faceoff with the mysterious Sith Lord.
If I said it once, I said it a million times. Like father like daughter. If I’m wrong, then I’ll gladly owe up to it, when proven so.
