Today, Sunday October 18th, 2015 at approximately 12:00 p.m. EST, the official Star Wars site released the Official Theatrical Movie Poster for: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS …
Honestly, I’m stunned the internet is still fully operational, but I digress.
So it dropped! Anything other than ‘Mind-blown’ over this reveal would be an understatement. That said, the company affiliated with MARVEL, alongside with former Ignition Creative designer, Bryan Morton (originally thought this was by Drew Struzan) totally outdid themselves with this one — the vibrant display of our long lost galaxy far, far away has been brought back to life, tenfold! Not saying there was anything wrong with it to begin with, but HOLY BLASTERS!
Ok, my first initial thoughts upon gaping at this enormously, soon to be epical, glorious pictorial of new visual ambiguity and continuity of our Star Wars saga was simply — Funtastic!
Looking closer, the first visual aspect that I singled in on was the stance and parallelism between Kylo Ren and Rey — even their weaponry is successively in sync. Am I reading too much into this? Maybe, my husband certainly tends to think so. His retort, “It’s a movie, you’re overthinking it.” Do you see why I married him? That’s a rhetorical question, folks … moving along.
The second thing, well, Rey’s engulfed in the crimson hues of darkness and not in the signature color of the lightside, as I would have expected her to be. Another use of imagery that I cannot break free from is that Han and Leia are featured together, possibly symbolizing their union? Again, intriguingly enough, the same can be said for Kylo and Rey, no? Not in the same sense, but you get where I’m going with this. Yes, I’m definitely over analyzing, but as I said, that’s what I do.
Thirdly, and I will not take credit for this one, but the secret weapon that happens to look like a cross between the original Death Star and a Droideka, is featured on the lightside of the poster. Thanks to Mike, for pointing that one out. He also noted that C3PO’s face has been modified, almost like a breathing apparatus has been installed. Not sure why, after all, he is a droid.
One last note that I’d like to point out are the troopers — there are some on both sides of the color palate. Whether or not that means anything, time will tell. I just happened to find it very interesting, as if, there are still individuals on either side that are unsure if they are … on the right side.
*PS: Yes, I did happen to notice that Luke Skywalker was indeed, MIA.*
