“A new life awaits us” …
Or does it? … The red blades are coming …
Anyone else feel that this episode of Star Wars Rebels: “The Future of the Force” opened up much like that of Star Wars: A New Hope? A ship was boarded and taken under siege … they, the Imperials, or in this case, the red blades (Inquisitors) came to retrieve something and they weren’t leaving without it, without her.
“Fear not, old one, we wish to make friends.”- The Seventh Sister
Ok, so it’s no secret that the Empire is hunting down what’s left or what has become of … “the children of the force.” This may come across to some as recycling or rehashing ideas, but not to me. In fact, this just bridges the storyline together, from timeline to timeline, or rather, connecting the saga as a whole.
The prequel era, The Clone Wars introduced us to this notion as mentioned by Ahsoka Tano and now, post Republic era, heading into the original trilogy timeframe, we see it coming to a head. In a sense, it’s a full circle dynamic aka ring theory (). That said, nothing in Star Wars happens by chance. Without rhyme or reason doesn’t apply to the galaxy far, far away — not by a long shot. At least not from my experience, but I digress.
As Ahsoka preps Kanan about their mission, she informs him that the Sith Lord manages to allude her, yet … I’m not so sure I fully believe her.
Like most Jedi Masters of her time, she keeps it vague when it comes to instructions and directions — leaving her student to rely on the force for guidance.
As Kanan takes leave with Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper to the coordinates provided by Ahsoka, she too, departs on her own journey; with hopes to intercede the Inquisitors and their bundle.
“They took her … the red blades … they knew that she has it.”
It’s obvious, much like Obi-Wan will eventually tell Luke, the children of the force are a threat to the Empire. They, like the son of Skywalker, must not become Jedi. Again, an homage or nod to the original trilogy, but also, beautiful storytelling on Filoni’s part.
And so, moving along, it seems both Zeb and Chopper have some unique babysitting skills. Ok, maybe not so much, but it was nice to see this softer side to the characters. Even Ezra seems to have his way with children, even the likes of a loud Ithorian youngling. His force connection is something to be reckoned with. He’s quite an Obi-Wan with his adept quality to become attuned with the living force, including infants that are touched by the force themselves.
It doesn’t take long for the Inquisitors to seek them out and take chase, leaving our band of Rebels to pick up the pace or at least, do their best to stay one-step ahead. Unfortunately, they come up short and wind up cornered, with no where to run.
Cue the music … because the force is with them.
This is the moment, the moment us Ahsoka Tano fans have been waiting for, her moment of glory and it was magnificent!
She appears like a true beacon of hope, illuminating through the soft glow of white light behind her, her stance is remarkably heroic and she is positively breathtaking. It’s as if the galaxy far, far away intertwined with Mulan and Joan of Arc — a patriot of galactic proportions.
Honestly, the seventh sister and the fifth brother never stood a chance against her. She easily out-matches them and her control is mind-blowing — yes, Master Skywalker would be proud.
“You’re reckless, little one. You never would have made it as Obi-Wan’s Padawan … but you might make it as mine.”- Anakin Skywalker
She clearly has become strong in the force and her lightsaber skills are more refined than most of the Jedi we’ve seen throughout the prequel trilogy. In fact, she’s quite ready to take on someone with far more skills than that of these so called red blades, but Lord Vader will have to wait …
