skywalker twins - hope

Raising Hope: The Skywalker Twins

“Hidden, safe, the children must be kept … Hmm … split up, they should be.”– Yoda in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

I find the lack of prequel respect quite disturbing. Especially when there are some that say, that the prequels “did not hold-up” to the original trilogy, in content or its storyline. The above dialogue, spoken by Yoda to Bail Organa and Obi-Wan, sets-up the entire foundation for the first three films that started it all.

In fact, the separation of the twins is a very heart-rending scene … if you stop and think about it. By the looks of all three present, upon making such a decision, not a single being seems certain on their so called consensus. That said, and as we all know, no choice comes without consequence or rather, repercussion(s).

We must take them somewhere the Sith will not feel their presence.”- Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Ever since 2005 when Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith came out, this line has always resonated with me and the urgency in Obi-Wan’s voice, well, it’s apparent that he had a very bad feeling about this. Had the three of them stood by and done nothing, what then? What would become of them? The offspring of Anakin Skywalker would be left unprotected and so would the antiquity (what’s left of it) of the Jedi. In other words, they knew the Skywalker twins were a threat to the Emperor and so, severing the force bond between brother and sister was their only option, if they were to one day, restore balance to the force.

So, by delivering Luke to his family on Tatooine and keeping Leia, safely anonymous by dubbing her “the Princess of Alderaan,” the motions on raising hope were set-into-place.

Ok, so just how powerful are the chosen one’s twins? Have you ever really stopped to think about it? I mean, why keep them apart – unless, their presence and force sensitivity is heightened when united. Could this be the reason?

Seems quite plausible to me, in fact, I’ve recently discussed this matter with fellow Star Wars enthusiast, from Star Wars Expose. Both of us seem to concur that when together, Luke and Leia’s abilities within the force are amplified – taking on tremendous feats with seemingly, victorious results.

For example, the “Death Star Escape” in Star Wars: A New Hope. Had the twins never met-up, would they have gotten away unscathed? Ok, minus the loss of Ben Kenobi, of course. You know what I’m getting at here. So, moving along. Fast forward to the “Death Star Trench” attack, that too, shows us the ramifications of when the twins are working together. Even in Empire Strikes Back, their powers within the force only grow stronger as they become closer to one another, developing a telepathic connection and by doing so, strengthening their unbeknownst, familial bond.

Perhaps, all the more reason as to why they were kept apart for all those years? Their union was meant to happen at the right moment or when the force deemed it so. It was their destiny, in a manner of speaking and both, Obi-Wan and Yoda … knew this to be true.

“We got separated.”– Luke in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

Again, another win on the prequels part and a great example of how, “Ring Theory,” truly solidifies the entire full circle concept of the trilogies. If you’re asking why that is, then I suggest you read it and re-watch the films or at least, watch episodes III and VI, respectively.

Going back to this line spoken by Luke in Jedi, it’s apparent that he is truly concerned for his sister’s disappearance and his expression is most definitely, on the grim side. That said, is it possible, by this point, Luke has figured out that the two of them together, exemplify maximum force capability? Interesting notion, isn’t it? Do me a favor, next time you’re watching Return of the Jedi, keep this thought in the back of your mind and see if you have a different experience throughout the film.

As we journey into Star Wars: The Force Awakens, what will become of the chosen one’s children? Have they realized their true potential or as I’ve referred to it in past articles, a “true joining in the force,” in other words, a calling … the force, it’s calling to you … let it in.

“Oh Luke, don’t ask for the moon, we have the force.”

If that’s not a true sign or a hint, of what’s to come for the Skywalker twins, then I’m having Delusions of Grandeur (insert winking emoticon here). After all, they were kept apart for a reason and one could say, that reason still exists thirty years later – maybe it always will.
