Now that the first installment of the third Star Wars trilogy has been released, over 60 years (66 to be exact) of story time has passed between Episode I (The Phantom Menace) and Episode VII (The Force Awakens). There are many memorable Star Wars characters that only appeared in one film, or one trilogy – but there is also a large group of characters that have now been in four or more films.
Here’s a look at Star Wars characters who appeared in four, five, six, and even all seven Star Wars films. Note: for this list I only included characters that could be seen on the screen. So Boba Fett’s silent cameo in the Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope Special Edition counts, Yoda and Obi-Wan’s voice-only appearances in Rey’s force visions in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens does not.
This list also only tracked character appearances in the seven canon Star Wars feature films. Many of these characters can also be found in other Star Wars TV shows, books, comics, etc.
Characters in Four Star Wars Films
Han Solo
Who: Everybody’s favorite smuggler/scoundrel
Appeared in episodes: IV, V, VI, VII
Played by: Harrison Ford
Possible future appearances: Kathleen Kennedy famously said to the press in 2015 that all of the major characters in The Force Awakens would also be in Episode VIII. So even though Han Solo clearly appeared to die in The Force Awakens, it looks like we will get at least a glimpse of Han Solo in Episode VIII. There is also of course the young Han Solo stand alone film scheduled to be released in 2018 to look forward to for future Han Solo sightings. Recent rumors even claim the young Han Solo will have a cameo in the Star Wars stand alone film Rogue One.
Boba Fett
Who: Scene stealing bounty hunter
Appeared in episodes: II, IV, V, VI
Played by: Daniel Logan (II), Mark Austin (IV), and Jeremy Bulloch (V, VI). Jason Wingreen originally provided Fett’s voice in Episode V and Episode VI, but his voice was changed to that of Temuera Morrison in the Special Edition of Episode V.
Possible future appearances: A Boba Fett stand alone films is scheduled to release in 2019.
Characters in Five Star Wars Films
Leia Organa
Who: Princess, rebel, general
Appeared in episodes: III, IV, V, VI, VII
Played by: Aidan Barton (III), Carrie Fisher (IV, V, VI, VII)
Possible future appearances: Leia is expected to appear in Episode VIII and she could easily play a role in the 2016 Star Wars stand alone film Rogue One.
Luke Skywalker
Who: Farmboy, pilot, Jedi Knight
Appeared in episodes: III, IV, V, VI, VII
Played by: Aidan Barton (III), Mark Hamill (IV, V, VI, VII)
Possible future appearances: Luke is expected to appear in Episode VIII (hopefully for more than a few shots).
Chewbacca
Who: Wookie, co-pilot, loyal friend
Appeared in episodes: III, IV, V, VI, VII
Played by: Peter Mayhew
Possible future appearances: Chewbacca is expected to appear in Episode VIII, and it would be fantastic if he also appeared in the Han Solo stand alone film.
Yoda
Who: Jedi Master
Appeared in episodes: I, II, III, V, VI
Played by: Frank Oz (puppetry and voice)
Possible future appearances: Yoda’s voice made an appearance in Rey’s force vision in Episode VII. It is unknown if Yoda will appear in future films.
Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious
Who: Dark Lord of the Sith
Appeared in episodes: I, II, III, V, VI
Played by: Ian McDiarmid
Possible future appearances: If you buy into the Palpatine is Snoke theory, he already has been in another film. He certainly could make an appearance in Rogue One.
Characters in Six Star Wars Films
Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader
Who: Pod racer, Jedi Knight turned Dark Lord of the Sith
Appeared in episodes: I, II, III, IV, V, VI
Played by: Jake Lloyd (I), Hayden Christensen (II, III, VI – as force ghost), David Prowse (IV, V, VI), and James Earl Jones – voice (III, IV, V, VI)
Possible future appearances: Darth Vader is rumored to play a part in Rogue One.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Who: Jedi Master, mentor, Force Ghost
Appeared in episodes: I, II, III, IV, V, VI
Played by: Ewan McGregor (I, II, III) and Alec Guinness (IV, V, VI)
Possible future appearances: Kenobi could possibly be in Rogue One (as could Yoda), but both of these scenarios seem unlikely as they were in hiding at the time. A Kenobi stand alone film has been rumored, starring none other than Ewan McGregor, but that is all just speculation at this point.
Characters in Seven Star Wars Films
C-3PO
Who: Protocol droid, interrupter of romantic moments
Appeared in episodes: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII
Played by: Anthony Daniels
Possible future appearances: It wouldn’t surprise anyone to see C-3PO in just about any future Star Wars film. He is expected to at least make an appearance in Episode VIII.
R2-D2
Who: Astromech droid, solver of problems
Appeared in episodes: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII
Played by: Kenny Baker
Possible future appearances: Just like C-3PO, R2-D2 could very well appear in any future Star Wars film in addition to Episode VIII.
